Menopause Awareness Month

Posted: Nov 15th 2023

By: Harbour Healthcare

Harbour Healthcare’s focus for October was menopause awareness! Across Harbour we facilitated an open conversation all about the menopause; it’s effects, our experiences, your questions and how we can provide support.

We offered a variety of support and education around menopause leading up to our company wide menopause coffee morning on the Wednesday 18th October 2023. We even offered a virtual event for our remote workers!

So what is the menopause?
The menopause is when a woman stops having periods and is no longer able to get pregnant naturally. It’s a natural part of the ageing process and usually occurs between 45 and 55 years of age. In the UK the average age for a woman to reach the menopause is 51.

What causes the menopause?
The menopause happens when a woman’s ovaries reduce their production of the hormone oestrogen and no longer release an egg each month. As women age and their store of eggs declines, ovulation, periods and pregnancies stop.
