The Dementia Interpreters course trains individuals to recognize and understand communication changes in people with dementia. It emphasizes the importance of translating behaviors as forms of communication to enhance the quality of life for those affected. The course includes training that simulates communication barriers faced by dementia patients.

All of our homes have undergone initial training and subsequent follow-up sessions to ensure that no staff member has been overlooked. This initiative is open to everyone, regardless of their role. To qualify for a promotional banner to display outside the home, at least 90% of staff must complete their training. The training consists of an in-person session, followed by a virtual visit using a Dementia experience vehicle, this program is provided by Training2Care: Courses – Dementia Interpreter. The training will continue as new staff members join and others depart, ensuring ongoing compliance at the 90% level. Harbour Healthcare has proudly been the first care organization to provide comprehensive training to all staff across its homes. We are committed to providing the best possible dementia training and resources for all of their employees. This in turn will allow us to provide the best possible care and support we can for people living with dementia.

On completion of the course delegates will become registered Dementia Interpreters having the option to participate with the global society of Dementia Interpreters through the Interpreter Forum on the superb Dementia Dictionary helping improve the lives of people with dementia
